Common questions

The pause screen doesn't show up

Mull needs Screen Time access and at least one app picked to pause. In Mull, open More → Pause and check both. If you turned off Screen Time access in iPhone Settings, turn it back on and choose your apps again.

I can’t get past the pause screen

Tap "Open anyway" to go straight in. If that button is missing or doesn’t work, open Mull and turn off More → Pause, or go to iPhone Settings → Screen Time and turn off Mull’s access. Either one lifts the pauses. Then email us so we can fix it.

Which apps shouldn’t I pause?

Anything you might need in an emergency: rides, maps, health and medical apps, and your phone and messages. Pause the apps where money slips away, like shopping and delivery apps.

Can I still open an app after the pause?

Yes. Tap "Open anyway" and the app opens for 15 minutes before Mull pauses it again. You're never locked out.

Does Mull connect to my bank?

No. Mull never asks for a bank login. You add purchases yourself, with Siri, through Apple Pay auto-logging, or by importing a bank screenshot or PDF statement that Mull reads on your phone.

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone, plus a backup copy in your own iCloud Drive if automatic backup is on. Mull has no account and no server, so we never see your data. Screen Time data is never included in the backup. See the privacy policy.

What happens if I delete the app or get a new phone?

If automatic backup to iCloud Drive is on (More → Back up to iCloud Drive), sign in to the same Apple Account on your new phone, open Mull, and restore your backup. You’ll need to choose your paused apps again, since Screen Time choices aren’t backed up. If backup is off, export a backup from inside Mull before you switch. Without a backup, deleting Mull deletes its data, and we can’t recover it.

Can I lock Mull?

Yes. Turn on More → Privacy → Require Face ID, and choose whether it locks right away, after 1 minute or after 5 minutes. Your iPhone passcode always works too. Siri, Apple Pay logging and widgets keep working while it's locked.

How do I log a purchase with Siri?

Say "Log a purchase in Mull". Siri asks how much and what it was for. Answer naturally, like “twelve dollars” or “twelve fifty”.

How do Apple Pay purchases log themselves?

In Mull, open More → Auto-log Apple Pay. It walks you through a one-time Shortcuts automation, step by step. After that, each Apple Pay tap is added automatically. The first time you buy from a new store, Mull asks you to pick a category. Until you do, it counts toward your month as “not sorted yet.”

Can Mull remind me to log?

Yes. Turn on gentle reminders in More, either every evening or once on Sundays. If you’ve already logged something that day, the evening reminder stays quiet.

How much does Mull cost?

Mull is free to download and use.
