Terms of Use
Last updated: October 20, 2026
Mull is a tool to help you plan your spending. It isn’t financial advice, it isn’t a safety tool, and you’re in charge of your own money decisions. Section 15 says disputes go to individual arbitration, not court or class actions, unless you opt out.
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Mull (“we” or “us”). They apply when you use the Mull iPhone app and this website (together, “Mull”). By using Mull, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use Mull.
1. Who can use Mull
You must be at least 13 to use Mull. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. Mull is for your own personal budgeting, on a device you own or are allowed to use. You’re responsible for anyone who uses Mull on your device.
2. What Mull is, and isn’t
Mull helps you set a monthly budget, track spending and savings goals, and pause before apps you choose. Mull is not a bank, doesn’t hold or move money, doesn’t connect to your accounts, and doesn’t give financial, tax, legal or investment advice. Nothing in Mull is a recommendation to buy, sell, save or invest.
Mull doesn’t watch your bank or card accounts and can’t warn you about low balances, overdrafts, fees, fraud or missed bills. Your bank and card statements are the record of your money, not Mull.
3. Your numbers are your responsibility
Mull’s numbers come only from what you enter, log, import or set up. They’re only as accurate as that information. Totals, “left to spend”, goal progress, charts and answers in Studio are estimates for planning, not account balances. Time spent in apps is shown in rough ranges. Check anything important against your bank or card statements before you rely on it.
Mull never tells you what you can or can’t buy. “Left to spend” is based on limits you set yourself, not on how much money you actually have. Reaching zero, or going “over”, only means you’ve passed your own plan. Never skip something you need, such as food, medicine, rent, bills, transport or anything for your health or safety, because of a number in Mull. Those decisions are always yours.
When you import a screenshot, photo, PDF or pasted text, Mull reads it with your iPhone’s text recognition, which can misread things. Siri, Shortcuts and Apple Pay automations can also mishear, miss or duplicate a purchase. You review what you save, and you’re responsible for it. Only import information you have the right to use.
4. The pause screen
The pause screen uses Apple’s Screen Time features. It only works with the permissions you give, and iOS decides when it appears, so it may not show every time, may show when you don’t expect it, or may stop working after an iOS update. You can always choose “Open anyway.” Mull is there to help you decide, not to stop you, and we can’t guarantee it will change how much you spend.
Don’t pause apps you might need in an emergency, such as rides, maps, health, or your phone and messages. Mull is a budgeting tool, not a safety tool. Never rely on Mull in an emergency. If you ever can’t get past the pause screen, turn the pause off in Mull (More → Pause), turn off Mull’s access in iPhone Settings → Screen Time, or delete Mull. Emergency calls are handled by iOS and are never affected by Mull.
Don’t use Mull while driving or in any situation where looking at your phone isn’t safe.
5. Reminders and widgets
Reminders, notifications and widgets are conveniences. iOS controls when they appear, and they may be late, missing or out of date. Don’t rely on them to pay a bill or meet a deadline.
6. Your data
Your data is stored on your iPhone and, if automatic backup is on, in your own iCloud Drive. We never receive it, which also means we can’t see, recover or restore it for you. If you delete Mull, lose or reset your phone, turn off backup, or an iCloud or iOS problem affects your backup, your data may be lost. Keep automatic backup on, or export a backup yourself, to keep a copy. We aren’t responsible for lost data. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
7. Price and purchases
Mull is free right now. If we offer paid features later, Apple handles every purchase and subscription under its own terms, including billing, renewals, cancellations and refunds. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your iPhone’s Settings. Anything you get for free today won’t become paid without notice in the app first.
8. Apple and other services
Siri, Shortcuts, Apple Pay, Wallet, iCloud Drive, widgets and Screen Time are Apple features. They work under Apple’s terms, and we don’t control how or when they run. Other apps you pause or log from are run by other companies under their own terms. We aren’t responsible for Apple or any other company’s services.
If you got Mull from the App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If it conflicts with these terms, Apple’s agreement wins for that part. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Mull, its support, any warranty, or any claim about it, including product liability, consumer protection, privacy or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
9. Using Mull fairly
Use Mull lawfully and only for your own personal budgeting. Don’t copy, resell, reverse engineer, scrape, overload or misuse the app or this website, and don’t use Mull to break any law or anyone else’s rights.
10. Who owns what
Mull, its design, name, logo and content belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Mull under these terms. Your budget data is yours. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely without owing you anything.
11. No guarantees
We work hard to keep Mull accurate and reliable, but it is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise Mull will be error-free, secure, always available, or compatible with future versions of iOS.
12. Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost money, lost savings, lost data, financial decisions, fees, overdrafts, late payments or purchases you make or don’t make while using Mull, even if we were told they were possible. Our total responsibility for all claims about Mull is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Mull in the 12 months before the claim or $50.
Some places don’t allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can’t legally be limited, such as for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct.
13. If someone makes a claim because of your use
If you misuse Mull or break these terms and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
14. Changes and ending
We may update Mull or these terms. When we change these terms, we’ll post them here with a new date, and for important changes we’ll also tell you in the app. Using Mull after that means you accept them. You can stop using Mull anytime by deleting it. We may change, suspend or stop offering Mull, or stop your use if you break these terms. Sections 3, 6 and 10 to 16 keep applying after you stop.
15. Settling disputes
Talk to us first. If you have a problem with Mull, email hello@trymull.com and give us 60 days to try to fix it before starting any claim.
Arbitration. If we can’t fix it, you and we agree that any dispute about Mull or these terms will be settled by final, binding individual arbitration under the Federal Arbitration Act, run by JAMS under its consumer rules, instead of in court. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court. There is no judge or jury in arbitration.
No class actions. You and we may each bring claims only on our own behalf, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, group or representative action.
Opting out. You can opt out of this section within 30 days of first using Mull by emailing hello@trymull.com with your name and “Arbitration opt-out.” If you opt out, or if this section doesn’t apply, disputes go to the state or federal courts in San Diego County, California.
Time limit. To the extent the law allows, any claim must be brought within one year after it arises.
16. The rest
These terms are governed by the laws of California, USA, except where federal law applies. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given up the right to. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement about Mull. We may transfer these terms if Mull changes hands; you can’t transfer them.
